Increasing awareness about the dangers that distractions from smartphones can create: this was the idea behind this internal campaign video for the engine drivers and conductors working for the Dutch Railways (NS). In order to make these dangers more tangible, not only does the narrator interact with the viewer, but his smartphone constantly fires information at the audience by displaying his private messages on screen. This allows the viewer to experience how complicated it is to say focused, and illustrates the new dynamics the smartphone brings with it. Thanks to smartphones, we not only take our work home with us, but we can also take our ‘homes’ to work with us. While the whimsical storytelling technique helps prevent the target group from feeling attacked for unsafe behaviour, it also aims to encourage reflection and dialogue.
